FAQs

Is an Evacuation Alert System legally required in my building?

BS 8629 recommends EAS installation in new high-rise residential buildings throughout the UK. Many local authorities and fire services now strongly encourage EAS installation in existing buildings as part of improved fire safety guidance.

How does an evacuation alert system differ from a fire alarm?

Fire alarms warn occupants.

Evacuation alert systems are only operated by the fire and rescue service to manage evacuation during major incidents. They are not resident-controlled.

Who is allowed to operate an EAS panel?

Only the fire and rescue service. The system is locked, restricted and designed for emergency personnel use only.

What standard governs evacuation alert systems?

BS 8629:2019. All designs, installation practices and commissioning procedures follow this standard.

Can you retrofit an EAS into an existing high-rise?

Yes. We regularly design retrofit solutions for tall residential buildings, including social housing, mixed-use buildings and private developments.

Do you provide certification after commissioning?

Yes. We issue commissioning certificates, compliance documentation and installation records suitable for building control and fire service review.

How reliable are the systems you use?

We install Advanced evacuation alert products — proven, robust, and tested to EN 54 Parts 2 and 4, ensuring performance under extreme fire conditions.
